“…13 However, many studies have reported the obvious foaming ability of ILs with alkyl chains longer than C 8 , which may adversely affect their practical applications. 14,15 Meanwhile, the long alkyl chains increased the risk of inhibitors damaging biological cell membranes to pose a threat to the ecosystem. 16 Therefore, imidazolium-based ILs with short alkyl chains should be preferred for designing green and efficient corrosion inhibitors.…”

“…Ionic liquids (ILs) are organic salts in liquid state below 100 °C, which consist of organic cations and inorganic/organic anions. , ILs with structural designability and high thermal stability show great potential as environmentally friendly additives to replace traditional corrosion inhibitors. It was demonstrated that ILs containing n-heterocycles (e.g., imidazole and pyridine) exhibited outstanding inhibition property in high-concentration corrosive media. , In particular, imidazole, with a 6π-electron system and high solubility, can intensively interact with metal surfaces, which is used as an effective corrosion inhibitor in pickling, well acidizing, and other operations. , Zhang et al proposed that the long alkyl chains in imidazolium-based inhibitors facilitated the formation of dense adsorption films that effectively blocked the contact between metals and corrosive media via hydrophobic shielding . However, many studies have reported the obvious foaming ability of ILs with alkyl chains longer than C 8 , which may adversely affect their practical applications. , Meanwhile, the long alkyl chains increased the risk of inhibitors damaging biological cell membranes to pose a threat to the ecosystem . Therefore, imidazolium-based ILs with short alkyl chains should be preferred for designing green and efficient corrosion inhibitors.…”
