Experimental and CFD Investigation of a Modified Uneven-Span Greenhouse Solar Dryer in No-Load Conditions under Natural Convection Mode

Abstract: An uneven-span modified greenhouse dryer was constructed and tested in no-load conditions under natural convection mode under the weather conditions of Marrakech, Morocco, for two distinct days. Moreover, a CFD evaluation of the uneven-span greenhouse dryer was performed as tool to visualize the air temperature distribution inside the dryer. For validating the CFD model, the temperature variations along the hours of the day were compared to the experimental results. A good agreement is obtained between the com… Show more

“…Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) in a solar air heater for the drying application is drawing a lot of interest to examine how various parameters affect the drying process. Additionally, evaluating the temperature distribution and melting fraction during charging and discharging of PCM under various climatic conditions (irradiance, ambient temperature, and PCM properties) will aid to optimize the design of the air heater shape as well as the air treatment and conditioning system 15 . It is clear from the previous works that a through thermal model on an FPSC for air heating and drying application need to take into account the system's thermal behavior, interactions between its essential components, estimation of the PCM's liquid fraction over a period of time, and evaluation of the charging and discharging cycles of the PCM.…”

“…The passive or natural convection mixed mode solar dryer performed better due to its mode and design (Mustayen, Mekhilef, & Saidur, 2014). Mellalou et al (2021) discussed how the convection methods of solar dryers can be either passive (natural) or active (forced) depending on the design. Passive dryers are more economical and cheaper as reported by (Balasuadhakar, Fisseha, Atenafu, & Bino, 2016).…”
