Experimental and analytical study of the structural response of segmental tunnel linings based on an in situ loading test.

Abstract: Description of the test performed on the segmental tunnel lining of L9 in Barcelona. " A maximum load of 3000 kN applied on the tunnel crown by hydraulic flat jacks. " Decisive influence of tangential ground-structure interaction on lining stresses. " Isolated ring response in rock: no significant stress transmissions to adjacent rings.

“…9). This quasiindividual response is fully consistent with the conclusions obtained in the "in situ" loading test presented in Molins and Arnau (2011), where no significant contribution of the adjacent rings was measured for a rock tunnel subjected to a localized load. On the other hand, the same load applied to the same structure embedded in soft ground, produces significant circumferential bending forces to adjacent rings ( Fig.…”

“…1). Each ring comprises a certain number of segments, defining a multiplejointed structure that presents a complex structural response (Muir Wood, 1975;Blom, 2002;Molins and Arnau, 2011). According to such particular configuration, the real threedimensional behavior of a segmental tunnel lining should be located somewhere between the response of a group of isolated rings and the response of a rigid pipe.…”

“…En el área metropolitana de Barcelona se han excavado -o están actualmente en proceso de excavación-varios túneles en los cuales se emplea el HRF para la ejecución de las dovelas de revestimiento [9,10]. En varios de estos, el uso de fibras, bien metálicas y/o plásticas, tiene la finalidad de mejorar la respuesta del material frente al impacto y/o la acción del fuego.…”

“…Nowadays some attempts in design and analysis of segmental tunnel lining are carried out based on the laboratorial studies [17][18][19][20][21][22][23]. Other methods are often verified by experimental methods.…”
