Experimental and Analytical Investigation of Flexural Behavior of Carbon Nanotube Reinforced Textile Based Composites

Abstract: In this study, the main goal of this study was to understand the effect of carbon nanotube (CNT) additives on the elastic behaviors of textile-based composites. The materials have three phases: carbon fiber fabric, epoxy matrix, and carbon nanotubes. Different weight fractions of CNTs were used (0% as a reference, 0.3%). Mechanical tests were performed, such as tension and three-point bending beam tests. In addition, the composite material damages were examined in detail. The experimental results show that the… Show more

“…using equations ( 30) and ( 31), the relation between W max with f 2 is obtained. The f 0 and f 2 amplitudes are expressed from equations ( 27) and ( 29), then substituting them into equation (28), the relation between q with f 2 is obtained as…”

“…[21][22][23][24][25][26][27] An experimental tensile test for CNT-reinforced beams was also performed exploring various micromechanical models. 28 The CNT-reinforced rectangular plates, skew plates, rectangular microplate and doubly curved micro-shell panels were mentioned in buckling and vibration problems. [29][30][31][32] A more general type of revolution shell than the cylindrical shell, the truncated conical shell, has also been mentioned in many works.…”

“…Nine beams were used in this study with three point loading force mechanism and four point loading mechanism with variation in the shear span to depth ratio. As a result, the ductility and strength of the beam were enhanced significantly by using of glass fiber reinforced polymers (GFRP) wraps [11,12].…”

“…Researchers from both domestic and international institutions are interested in functionally graded CNT-reinforced composites (FG-CNTRCs), a novel class of materials made possible by the linear distribution of CNTs in a matrix [ 32 ]. In traditional composites, the material design with mechanical qualities in mind is altered to achieve the desired mechanical properties by reversing the fiber orientations [ 33 , 34 ]. When looking at fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites as a whole, it becomes crucial to reinforce the interlayer area that is referred to as the weak link [ 35 , 36 ].…”
