The textile and apparel industry is one of the largest industries in the world, with significant environmental and social impacts, such as manual labor in poor working conditions and resource depletion and environmental degradation due to ineffective production. As a result, there is an increasing need for sustainable practices and a transition toward a more circular and responsible industry. In this paper, we introduce the proposed approach in the context of a sustainable transition for the industrial textiles. Instead of human labor, the automated solution to detect defects is proposed for the 4.0 revolution in general and the textile industry in particular. Specifically, the mechanical design of a three-dimensional model for small- and medium-sized fabric rolls is portrayed. Some computational mechanics are created to ensure a stable mechanism and proper actuators. For acquiring accurate data and measuring the machine state, several installations, that is, a digital camera, load cell, and positioning sensor, and the layout of the light source are improved to intensify the image quality. The control theme, such as the cross-coupling controller, offers superior performance in synchronization and vibration-less motion. Lastly, the excellent detection method is provided by the convolutional neural network scheme for offline training to distinguish defects on products. Instead of a manual check or low rate of defect detection on products, the contributions of this research are as follows: (a) analyzing the mechanical design of the textile machining system in terms of dynamic characteristics; (b) implementing a smooth scheme based on motion control synchronization; and (c) integrating various strategies, including vision-based computation and control topology, to demonstrate superior performance. These results highlight that our approach can be widely adapted to address sustainability challenges not only in the textile field but also in global manufacturing practices.

Based on the culture of new clothes on the New Year, Eid, and other special days, the demand for convection products will increase drastically. This condition is a big obstacle for small businesses in the creative industry in Indonesia, especially in Probolinggo. Increasing the amount of convection production in Probolinggo is by applying new technologies to accelerate the production. If convection production, both custom and general order, can be made quickly, the amount of production will increase. A buttonhole sewing machine is a machine that has the ability to embroider and buttonhole automatically. Edge sewing machine, a machine that works as a tool that is able to sew and smooth the edges of the fabric automatically. With these two machines, convection products will be faster. Both machine training service activities were carried out well. The results made using a buttonhole sewing machine show a good and short level of neatness. Edge sewing machines also provide satisfactory results. To sew and tidy up the fabric, it can be done quickly and neatly. All forms of service activities are carried out to be able to solve the problems experienced by small business partners in the creative convection industry in Probolingo.

Studies on Wear of a Milling Chuck for a Production Line of Specialized Elements Used in Lockstitch Machines

The study aims to determine the wear intensity of selected milling chuck assembly surfaces covered with a protective DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) coating, used on the production line for elements of selected lockstitch machines, and to analyze the stress distributions in the object fixed with such a chuck for the characteristic load systems of this object during its processing. A model of the workpiece was developed using the finite element method. The boundary conditions, including the load and the method of clamping the workpiece, resulted from the parameters of the milling process and the geometric configuration of the milling chuck. Stress distributions in the workpiece for specific milling parameters and for various configurations of the milling chuck holding the workpiece are included in the article. The model experimental studies of wear were conducted in the contact zone between two surfaces covered with DLC: one on the element of the milling chuck pressing the workpiece and the other on the eccentric cams of this holder. The obtained wear values and shapes for the worn surfaces are also shown. The wear intensities for the steel plunger fins modelling swivel arm of the holder were by an order higher than those of corresponding steel shaft shoulders modelling eccentric cam of the holder. The linear wear intensities for these mating components may be expressed in terms of a function of average contact pressure and sliding speed in a corresponding contact zone. The indentation of eccentric cam into mating surface of the swivel arm of the holder increased nonlinearly with the enhancement of number of cycles of the eccentric cam.
