Experimental analysis of compressive behavior of E-Glass fiber reinforced IPN (vinyl ester/polyurethane) composite pipes

Abstract: The manuscript discusses about the effect of compressive load on the E-Glass fiber reinforced interpenetrating polymer networks (IPNs). In this work, a series of combination of vinyl ester (VER) loaded polyurethane (PU) IPNs have been taken as the matrix material with the E-Glass reinforcement, with the loading of 0%, 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50% PU respectively. Besides hand-layup technique was used to fabricate the cylindrical shells in order to get the final shape of the IPN composite pipe. Simultaneously to val… Show more

“…From Figure 3(a), it is clearly discerned that PVC‐D, PVC‐C, and PVC‐K displayed only one tan δ peak, suggesting that these plasticizers had good compatibility with PVC matrix. The T g values of PVC‐D, PVC‐C, and PVC‐K were 22.3, 40.5, and 20.6°C, respectively, while the T g value of pure PVC was in the range of 80–90°C 8,19–22 . According to the free volume theory of plasticization, the molecule of plasticzier possesses the ability to reduce interactions between PVC chains and increase the free volume between the polymeric chains.…”

“…Also, phthalates have been banned in certain applications due to the high risk of toxic and biological effects on the humans, and phthalates are usually generated from petroleum resources 13–15 . Therefore, to find a substitute for conventional DOP with comparable performance, nontoxic plasticizers based on sustainable resources have attracted a lot of attention in recent years, 16–18 with biobased resources receiving much attention due to their nontoxic and sustainable characteristics 19–21 . As a result, numerous alternative plasticizers derived from biobased resources, have been developed, including fatty acid esters, 22,23 tung oil, 24,25 soybean oil, 26,27 isosorbide, 28,29 castor oil, 30–32 and tartaric acid 33 .…”
