The orderliness of service and operation of facilities and infrastructure is relatively low, and many factors contribute to it, such as the weak awareness of ship owners and companies in implementing an effective and implementable safety system in the field, the seaworthiness of ships that are more oriented towards certification which in fact is not supported by careful inspection, as well as supervision carried out by the government on the implementation (drilling) of shipping safety requirements is inconsistent. The purpose of socialization to passengers who use traditional wooden ships is "Socialization of Safety Factors for Passengers of Traditional Ship Crossing Transport at Muara Angke Port Jakarta" the purpose of socialization is to prevent opportunities for violations in shipping not using Ring Life Buoys, Life Jackets and unethical behavior of ships passengers.

Various basic occupational health services (BOHS) are provided, particularly in-plant BOHS; however, it might be necessary to start expanding BOHS. The current study focuses on BOHS model development using participatory action research (PAR) at a large-sized enterprise in northeastern Thailand. The PAR began with a situation analysis using ILO Convention C161, problem and cause analysis, the development of an action plan, observation and action, evaluation, and replanning. The research tools included interviews, focus group discussions (FGDs), and participant observations. The participants included managers, human resource staff, safety officers, and workers. Both inductive and deductive thematic analyses were undertaken. The results showed that (1) education and learning experience led to the workers detecting work-related diseases early by themselves and the implementation of medical surveillance programs; (2) the workers’ occupational health needs led to return-to-work assessments and first aid room system development; (3) the employer’s experience led to appropriate fit-for-work examinations and emergency preparedness; and (4) the feedback from BOHS providers led to a hospital-to-in-plant return-to-work conversion. The study concluded that the enterprise could develop fit-for-work and return-to-work assessments as per the ILO Convention C161 under the policy; however, medical surveillance and the first aid room system need to be developed through counseling at the hospital’s occupational medicine clinic.

Background Commercial fishing is a precarious industry with high fatal and nonfatal injury rates. The Risk Information System of Commercial [RISC] Fishing project at Oregon State University has been tracking both fatal and nonfatal injuries among Pacific Northwest commercial fishermen. We conducted a hazard analysis to identify injury-associated factors to highlight prevention opportunities. Method We identified 245 nonfatal commercial fishing injuries in the Pacific Northwest (2000-2018) and assessed the top three injury events (contact with objects or equipment, transportation incidents, and slips-trips-falls). We generated a Haddon matrix for each event type and populated the matrices with injury-associated factors following our a-priori matrix. Results We observed 108 nonfatal injuries due to contact with objects. Fishing gear (40%) was the dominant injury source. The top work process was hauling the fishing gear (22%). Handling heavy loads (32%) and contact with unsecured objects (27%) often resulted in contact injuries. Of the 58 transportation injuries most occurred in the catcher-vessels (93%) and smaller vessels (< 5 crew) (74%). Vessel casualties (91%) were common as several vessels struck rocks/bottom (29%) or experienced fire and explosion (19%). The crew was abandoned to water (38%) due to no raft or raft malfunctions. Slip, trip, and fall injuries (n = 43) typically happened during onboard traffic (49%). Such events were largely experienced by the catcher-processors (44%) including large vessels with >100 crew (28%). Conclusion The Haddon matrix demonstrated the injury-event timeline and helped to identify potential injury-associated factors. Our injury-specific risk matrices will let commercial fishing stakeholders determine priorities and work with the experts on prevention efforts.
