Experience with the use of fibrin sealant plus polyglycolic acid felt at the cut surface of the liver in laparoscopic hepatectomy

Abstract: Use of fibrin sealant with PGA felt in laparoscopic hepatectomy appears to be feasible, and the outcomes are not inferior to those in the control group.

“…The hybrid technique is started as a pure laparoscopic procedure, but the resection of the liver is performed through a mini‐laparotomy incision. Hand‐assisted laparoscopic surgery was defined as the elective placement of a hand port during laparoscopic liver resection, as previously described . Hepatic resection was carried out using an ultrasonic surgical aspirator (CUSA; Cavitron Lasersonic, Stamford, CT, USA), laparosonic coagulating shears (Ethicon Endo‐Surgery, Cincinnati, OH, USA), and a bipolar clamp coagulation system (VIO 300D; Erbe Elektromedizin, Tübingen, Germany).…”

“…Laparoscopic surgical techniques have recently been applied to liver resection, despite the fact that their feasibility remains controversial. Although several randomized controlled trials (RCT) have been carried out to investigate the usefulness of laparoscopic techniques in gastric and colorectal surgery, laparoscopic liver resection (LLR) has a relatively short history and the surgical techniques are still under development.…”
