Experience of Groove Questionnaire

Abstract: In recent empirical research, the experience of groove (i.e., the pleasant sense of wanting to move along with the music) has come into focus. By developing the new Experience of Groove Questionnaire (EGQ), Senn et al. (2020) have provided a standardized and validated research instrument for future studies, consisting of the two correlated factors Urge to Move and Pleasure. The present study reports the translation of the English version into German and a validation with a German sample (N = 455). The original… Show more

“…The 16 experimental stimuli used in the experiment are listed in Table 1. Eight of the stimuli (WON, CAS, KOU, MAL, MAH, ANG, SHA, and BRO) were relevant to the development of the Experience of Groove Questionnaire, which introduced the urge to move ( MOV ) and pleasure ( PLE ) scales (Düvel et al, 2021; Senn et al, 2020). These stimuli were selected with the explicit intention of triggering extreme urge to move and pleasure reactions in listeners.…”

“…The testing of the model hypotheses requires an inventory of psychometric scales that are capable of measuring the perceived intensity of listeners’ cognitive processes. In recent years, we first developed two psychometric scales that measure listeners’ subjective experience of an urge to move in response to the music and listening pleasure (Experience of Groove Questionnaire; Düvel et al, 2021; Senn et al, 2020). Recently, we developed three additional scales that measure the inner representation of temporal regularity , time-related interest , and energetic arousal caused by the music (Senn et al, 2022).…”
