Exosomes: Revisiting their role as “garbage bags”

Abstract: In recent years, the term “extracellular vesicle” (EV) has been used to define different types of vesicles released by various cells. It includes plasma membrane‐derived vesicles (ectosomes/microvesicles) and endosome‐derived vesicles (exosomes).
