Exosomal Long Non-Coding RNA: Interaction Between Cancer Cells and Non-Cancer Cells

Abstract: Exosomes are small membranous vesicles released by many kinds of cells, and are indispensable in cell-to-cell communication by delivering functional biological components both locally and systemically. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are long transcripts over 200 nucleotides that exhibit no or limited protein-coding potentials. LncRNAs are dramatic gene expression regulators, and can be selectively sorted into exosomes. Exosomal lncRNAs derived from cancer cells and stromal cells can mediate the generation of p… Show more

“…Exosomes are small endosomes extracellular vesicles with a size range of ~40 to 160 nm. 55 Exosomes have gained attention over the past decade owing to their role as carriers of a wide range of biomolecules, including lipids, proteins, DNAs, mRNAs, lncRNA and miRNAs in both physiological and pathological processes. Hence, they illustrate a novel mode of intercellular communication and play a principal role in many cellular processes, such as immune response, signal transduction and antigen presentation.…”

“…Exosomal metastatic lncRNAs can regulate the proliferation, migration, invasion and apoptosis of tumor cells, and may be used as biomarkers for tumor-related diagnosis and prognosis ( Han S. et al, 2020 ). LncRNA-MIAT was initially discovered as a tumor-associated lncRNA and was reported to regulate splicing and epigenetic control of gene expression.…”

“…TDEs lncRNAs are transported to the TME to modulate the roles of various cells, including macrophages, endothelial cells and fibroblasts ( 24 ). In liver cancer cells, lncRNA TUC339 induces M2 polarization by interacting with cytokine-cytokine receptors to exaggerate tumor metastasis ( 83 ). It is well known that lncRNA urothelial carcinoma-associated (UCA1) is an lncRNA associated with the occurrence and progression of various cancers, including colorectal cancer.…”
