Exergy Analysis of Overspray Process in Gas Turbine Systems

Abstract: Gas turbine power can be augmented by overspray process which consists of inlet fogging and wet compression. In this study exergy analysis of the overspray process in gas turbine system is carried out with a non-equilibrium analytical modeling based on droplet evaporation and the second law of thermodynamics. This work focuses on the effects of system parameters such as pressure ratio, water injection ratio, and initial droplet diameter on exergetical performances including irreversibility and exergy efficienc… Show more

“…c) The cooling process was adiabatic with no water loss while being injected and had an effectiveness of 90% [113]. d) In the fogging chamber all the fog droplets were evaporated and the air from the fog chamber inters the compressor unit in saturated condition [114,115]. e) The air and the products of combustion behaves like ideal gases [52] The equations used for calculating the performance of the selected GTPG was as follows.…”

“…On the other hand, when water injection ratio is higher than f 0c , the air becomes saturated and some water droplets leave the compressor along with humid air. This study will restrict the water injection ratio below the critical ratio, so all the cases will have complete evaporation of injected water droplets before the compressor exit [26,30].…”

“…Most of the researchers studied the performance of different airfoils design and different operational conditions where analyzing the problem was only based on the parameter of first law of thermodynamics. In order to form a deeper understanding, it is necessary to look at the second law of thermodynamics since it has shown very promising result in many applications, such as wind turbine in [56][57][58][59][60][61], and gas turbine in [62][63][64][65][66][67].…”
