In liquefied natural gas (LNG) production, the total efficiency of the system increased by using mixed refrigerants for the liquefaction process. In this study, the mixing of the effective refrigerants is considered as one of the most important factors in the optimization of liquefaction process of natural gas. In this regard, three mixed refrigerants with different compositions and conditions were selected. The refrigerants were selected based on optimization of power and electrical efficiency, overall thermal efficiency, heat exchanged with refrigeration cycle, and mass flow rate of Refrigerants in cycle. The optimized chemical process with related energy integrations were simulated and evaluated by Aspen HYSYS and Aspen energy analyzer (HX‐Net), respectively. Furthermore, the Aspen Capital Cost Estimator (Icarus) was employed for the economic analysis of these processes. The investment and operating costs of the optimized process (in the process with considering the MR3 refrigerant) are less than other processes. The calculated capital, operating, and equipment costs are about 22.6, 20.1, and 10.3 million US Dollars in the process with MR3 refrigerant. The mixed refrigerant 3 (MR3) contains the CH4, C2H6, C3H8, and N2 with the mole fraction of 0.1316, 0.1317, 0.0299, and 0.7098, respectively. Modeling and cost estimation techniques can be used as a useful tool for the design and optimization of appropriate gas liquefaction and refrigeration processes with an effective performance for various industrial applications.

In this paper, we study the input torque of a permanent magnet eddy current heater (PMECH) as the main important parameter to generate heat directly from wind energy. The PMECH contains a metallic stator, which acts as a conductor, and a rotor covered by permanent magnets to generate a magnetic field on the conductor. We studied nine configurations varying in magnet arrangements on the rotor to show their effects on the input torque of the heat generator under different angular velocities from 100 to 500 RPMs. It is shown that having enough space between permanent magnets perpendicular to the rotational direction can increase the induced magnetic flux on the conductor, and we see a growth in the input energy of PMECH. Moreover, having an energy efficiency of more than 95% at different rotational speeds, PMECH can be an alternative energy converter system when it needs to generate thermal energy directly from the wind.

Summary Fossil fuels demonstrate pollution effects and significant emissions on the atmosphere, which made the use of clean, renewable sources of energy a necessity. Renewable energy has many sources, but the most promising and cheapest energy source is solar energy, which has led to a focus on efficient solar energy harvesting to be cheaper for public use. Stationary solar collectors like evacuated tube and flat‐plate solar collectors are the most commonly used solar collectors for their simplicity of installation and maintenance. They are mostly used for domestic applications such as solar water heaters. Nanofluids can improve the thermal properties of the working fluid which can improve the performance of a collector. This review paper discussed the effect of different parameters on the stationary solar collector's performance, such as nanoparticle use, nanoparticle size, concentration, and the base fluid of the nanofluid. This review paper also aims to summarize previous studies performed on the use of different nanofluids on the two types of circulation that can be either thermosiphon or forced circulation for both collectors to investigate the energetic and exergetic efficiencies. The theoretical performance analysis equations of stationary solar collectors are provided too. From the reviewed results, it was concluded that a substantial improvement in both the energetic and exergetic efficiencies of both collectors had been obtained from the use of carbon‐based nanofluids compared to a significant number of different nanofluids. The paper also discusses the significant challenges of nanofluid use and how to overcome them in stationary solar collectors.
