Exclusive production ofωmeson in proton-proton collisions at high energies

Abstract: First we calculate cross section for the γp → ωp reaction from the threshold to very large energies. At low energies the pion exchange is the dominant mechanism. At large energies the experimental cross section can be well described within the k t -factorization approach by adjusting light-quark constituent mass. Next we calculate differential distributions for the pp → ppω reaction at RHIC, Tevatron and LHC energies for the first time in the literature. We consider photon-pomeron (pomeron-photon), photon-pion… Show more

“…The dominant diffractive bremsstrahlung mechanisms for the exclusive pp → ppπ 0 reaction 1 The exclusive pion production mechanism is similar to pp → ppω [2] and pp → ppγ [3] processes. 2 In the past we have studied exclusive pion/kaon pairs in the pp → ppπ + π − [15,16], pp → nnπ + π + [17] and pp → ppK + K − [18] processes.…”

“…We shall try to identify the region of the phase space where one can expect a dominance of one of the processes through detailed studies of several differential distributions. The exclusive photon production mechanism is similar to pp → ppω [2] and pp → ppπ 0 [3] processes. As discussed in the past the dominant hadronic bremsstrahlung-type mechanism is the Drell-Hiida-Deck mechanism [4] for diffractive production of πN final states (for a nice review we refer to [5] and references therein).…”

“…The photons radiated off the initial and final state protons can be seen by the Zero Degree Calorimeters (ZDCs) [7] in the pseudorapidity region |η| > 8.5 and 8.3 at the CMS and ATLAS, respectively. 2 The scattered protons can be tagged e.g. by the ALFA detectors at ATLAS (see [9]) or TOTEM at CMS.…”
