Exciting rogue waves, breathers, and solitons in coherent atomic media

Abstract: We propose a scheme that excites rogue waves via electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT), which can also excite breathers and solitons. The system is a resonant Λ-type atomic ensemble. Under EIT conditions, the envelope equation of the probe field can be reduced to several different models, such as the saturable nonlinear Schrödinger equation (SNLSE), and SNLSE with the trapping potential provided by a far-detuned laser field or a magnetic field. In this scheme, rogue waves can be generated by different… Show more

“…On the one hand, rogue waves have localization of time and space [4,5]. On the other hand, the peak height of the rogue wave is at least 2.2 times higher than the background plane value [6,7,17,18]. In the past few decades, the research progress of rogue waves was slow.…”

“…The current hot topic in the nonlinear science is to investigate the cause and nature of rogue waves [37]. This research is attracting more attention as well because a new scheme for RWs excitation, via the electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) [38][39][40], was described recently [41].…”
