“…This effect has been previously observed in many different compounds27. The first coordination sphere of the Eu 2+ in (Sr 0.98-x Ba x Eu 0.02 ) Si 2 O 2 N 2 is build with negative ions having approximately cubic symmetry.…”

“…Properties of complex consisting of Eu 2+ ions and its negatively charged coordination sphere can be described using crystal field approximation in such case high hydrostatic pressure causes the increase of the energies of the 4f  7 , 4f  6 5d 1 electronic configuration with respect to the host bands energies and the increase of the 4f  6 5d 1 levels splitting2425. The superposition of these effects are seen as a pressure-induced diminishing of the energy of luminescence related to the 4f  6 5d 1  → 4f  7 transition.…”

“…Consequently, the ETE luminescence was observed only in the Ca I site. This relationship between the relative energy location of ETE and 5d states and optical properties in other Eu 2+ -doped compounds is already explained by many researchers [32][33][34][35][36][37][38].…”

“…Actually, one can consider more general dependence on R À m , where m depends on the type of interaction between 4f n electrons and ligands [23]. According to these considerations the energies of the states of the 4f 2 electronic configuration of Pr 3 þ increases with respect to the conduction band edge.…”
