Excess Volumes and Speeds of Sound of N-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone with Chloroethanes and Chloroethenes at 303.15 K

Abstract: Excess molar volumes (V E) and the speed of sound (u) of binary mixtures of N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone with chloroethanes and ethenes have been measured at 303.15 K. The chloroethanes are 1,2-dichloroethane, 1,1,1-trichloroethane, and 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane. The chloroethenes are trichloroethene and tetrachloroethene. The speed of sound data were used to compute isentropic compressibilities (κs) and excess isentropic compressibilities (κs E). V E values are negative over the entire mole fraction range. The κs v… Show more

“…Ethyl methyl ketone (BDH Ltd., initial mass fraction purity >0.99), diethyl ketone (Fluka initial mass fraction purity >0.99), methyl propyl ketone (Aldrich, initial mass fraction purity >0.99), methyl isobutyl ketone (BDH Ltd., initial mass fraction purity >0.99), and cyclohexanone (Aldrich initial mass fraction purity >0.99) were initially dried over 0.4 nm molecular sieves for several days and purified by fractional distillation. The purity of the chemical products was verified by measuring the densities (q), refractive indices (n), and sound velocity (u), which were in good agreement with literature values [7,[13][14][15] as can be seen in table 1. The purities of the samples were further confirmed by GLC single sharp peaks.…”

“…In other words, excess molar volumes (V E ) of binary mixtures containing NMP + aromatic hydrocarbons [19,20], +hydrocar-bon [16,21], +chloroethanes and chloroethenes [22], +an ether [23] have been appeared in the literature. Moreover, several researchers explicitly elucidated in the literature for the excess enthalpies (H E ) of binary mixtures containing NMP + aromatic hydrocarbons [20,24], +hydrocarbon [21,25,26], or +N-methylcaprolactam [27], +chloroethanes and chloroethenes [28], +an ether [23].…”

“…Molar excess volumes and molar excess enthalpies of these mixtures are also of interest from thermodynamic and structural points of view. In order to extend the our research programme to explore the interactions between the high polar groups with other solvents [22,[28][29][30][31][32][33], and to characterize the type and magnitude of molecular interactions between the polar group solvents and also to study the effect of chain length of alkanols, we report here the V E and H E at 303.15 K and at 298.15 K, respectively, and atmospheric pressure of binary mixtures of containing NMP with branched alkanols, which are 2-propanol, 2-butanol, 2-methyl-1-propanol, 2-methyl-2-propanol and 3-methyl-1-butanol.…”

“…The present study is a continuation of our earlier research [1][2][3][4][5] on thermodynamic properties of binary liquid mixtures which contain highly polar liquids with other solvents. The liquids were chosen in the present investigation on the basis of their industrial importance.…”
