Excess Volumes and Speed of Sound of Ternary Mixtures of 2-Methoxyethanol (1) + Butyl Acetate (2) + Aromatic Hydrocarbons (3) at 303.15 K

Densities and speeds of sound for the binary liquid mixtures of propylene glycol monomethyl ether (1-methoxy-2-propanol), CH 3 OCH 2 CH 2 CH 2 OH, propylene glycol monoethyl ether (1-ethoxy-2-propanol), C 2 H 5 OCH 2 CH 2 CH 2 OH, propylene glycol monopropyl ether (1-propoxy-2-propanol), C 3 H 7 OCH 2 CH 2 CH 2 OH, and propylene glycol monobutyl ether (1-butoxy-2-propanol), C 4 H 9 OCH 2 CH 2 CH 2 OH, with n-alkyl acetate over the whole composition range have been measured using an Anton Paar DSA 5000 M densimeter at T = (288. 15, 293.15, 298.15, 303.15, and 308.15) K and atmospheric pressure. Experimental data on density and speeds of sound have been used to derive excess quantities like excess molar volume, V m E , and deviation in isentropic compressibility, Δκ S . The results have been discussed in terms of intermolecular interactions and their dependence on the composition and temperature.

Densities and ultrasonic velocities have been measured over the whole composition range for the binary liquid mixtures of dipropylene glycol monomethyl ether (mixture of isomers) {CH 3 (OC 3 H 6 ) 2 OH}, dipropylene glycol monopropyl ether (mixture of isomers) {CH 3 (CH 2 ) 2 (OC 3 H 6 ) 2 OH}, and dipropylene glycol monobutyl ether (mixture of isomers){CH 3 (CH 2 ) 3 (OC 3 H 6 ) 2 OH} with alkyl acetates using an Anton Paar DSA 5000 density and speed sound analyzer in the temperature interval (288.15 to 308.15) K and atmospheric pressure. From these experimental data, excess molar volume, V m E and deviations in isentropic compressibility, Δκ S , have been calculated. The computed results of these quantities have been correlated using the Redlich−Kister polynomial equation to obtain the binary coefficients and standard deviations.

The experimental densities at T = (298.15 to 318.15) K, speeds of sound, and relative permittivities at T = (298.15 and 308.15) K are measured for the six ternary mixtures: methyl methacrylate (1) + 2-butoxyethanol (2) or dibutyl ether (2) + benzene (3), toluene (3), and p-xylene (3). Excess molar volumes, excess isentropic compressibilities, and deviations in molar polarizations are calculated. The above functions of ternary systems were also calculated using the data of constituent binary pairs and employing Redlich−Kister, Tsao and Smith, and Kohler equations. Compared to others, the Redlich−Kister equation has been found to reproduce the experimental excess molar volumes adequately, while excess isentropic compressibilities and deviations in molar polarizations of the above ternary mixtures could not be adequately calculated using the respective binary contributions.
