“…In addition, as noted by some researchers, SAMs formed by C n PAs are more strongly bound to an oxidized metal surface and are characterized by higher density, ordering and stability compared to SAMs formed from higher carboxylic acids or silanes [272,281,282]. These specific features of higher C n PAs, along with low toxicity, allow them to be used as efficient and environmentally friendly surface modifiers of materials and as OCIs [283][284][285][286]. However, their use in aqueous solutions is difficult due to their low solubility.…”

“…Raman et al [7] studied their ability to create a Self-Assembled-Monolayer (SAM) on the surface of an oxidized austenitic stainless steel (316L). In more recent studies [8,9,10,11,12], significant improvement of the tribological behaviour of different substrates (copper, titanium, stainless steels) was demonstrated and assigned to alkylphosphonic acids molecules used as nano-size liquid additives in lubricant, highlighting more especially the formation of low-friction tribofilm during sliding, responsible for the surface protection, Figure 1. The development of a water-based lubricant containing alkylphosphonic acids is now in progress, and the efficiency of grafted tribofilms obtained from fluid additive reaction with metallic parts concerned by the cutting process (part and tool), has to be validated.…”

“…The responsive behavior of switching between friction and lubrication was obtained by cross-linked polyDVBAPS [29]. It is widely accepted that phosphate groups have a strong affinity to many metal surfaces, and poly(vinylphosphonic acid) (PVPA) is a kind of macromolecule, having a high density of phosphate groups on a polymer backbone [30,31]. Our previous studies showed that PVPA-modified Ti6Al4V has a stable cross-linked network structure, exhibiting superlubricity behavior and a saltresponse characteristic [17,32].…”
