“…To a large extent, the early date and/or unpublished state of the excavations of some palaces is to blame. Studies on recently found deposits from the palaces at Galatas and Gournia (Girella 2007;Rethemiotakis & Christakis 2013;Watrous et al 2015), as well as evidence for such communal gatherings from the Early Bronze Age onwards at Knossos and Phaistos (Day & Wilson 2002;Todaro 2013), can now be supplemented with the evidence from Sissi. An assemblage of 148 simple and eight elaborate cups, carefully placed within a plastered bench in the east wing, may have accompanied building activities around 1600 BC (Caloi 2018).…”

“…Two large deposits of cups, bowls, bones, and pumice filled the small space of the approximately 1 x 1 m room, one deposit dating to MM IIIA and the other to LM IB. Situated east of a kernos and baetyl on the western edge of the palace (Watrous et al 2015, 429–31), the position of the room and its depositions next to these sacred objects points to past drinking ceremonies and the ritual disposal of its equipment in a sacred space. Among the hundreds of regular-sized ceramic vessels found in the MM IIIA and LM IB deposits of Room 13, some were labelled as miniature objects.…”
