Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a relapsing non-transmural chronic inflammatory disease of the colon characterized by bloody diarrhea. The etiology of UC is unknown. The goal is to reduce the inflammation and induce disease remission in UC patients with active disease. The aim of this study is to investigate the innovative treatment method used to promote disease remission in UC patients with active disease targeting gut dysbiosis. Immunosuppressants such as TNF-α blocker are used to promote disease remission in UC, but it is expensive and with side effects. Probiotic, prebiotic and diet are shown to be effective in maintaining disease remission. Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) might be the future therapy option to promote disease remission in UC patients with active disease. However, correct manufacturing and administration of the FMT are essential to achieve successful outcome. A few cohorts with FMT capsules show promising results in UC patients with active disease. However, randomized controlled clinical trials with long-term treatment and follow-up periods are necessary to show FMT capsules’ efficacy to promote disease remission in UC patients.

Tuft cells are more than guardian chemosensory elements of the digestive tract. They produce a variety of immunological effector molecules in response to stimulation; moreover, they are essential for defense against protozoa and nematodes. Beyond the description of their characteristics, this review aims to elucidate the potential pathogenic and therapeutic roles of colonic tuft cells in inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal cancer, focusing on their primarily immunomodulatory action. Regarding inflammatory bowel disease, tuft cells are implicated in both maintaining the integrity of the intestinal epithelial barrier and in tissue repair and regeneration processes. In addition to maintaining intestinal homeostasis, they display complex immune-regulatory functions. During the development of colorectal cancer, tuft cells can promote the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition, alter the gastrointestinal microenvironment, and modulate both the anti-tumor immune response and the tumor microenvironment. A wide variety of their biological functions can be targeted for anti-inflammatory or anti-tumor therapies; however, the adverse side effects of immunomodulatory actions must be strictly considered.

La psoriasis es una enfermedad crónica de la piel que afecta a millones de personas en todo el mundo, caracterizada por placas rojas y escamosas en la piel. A lo largo de los años, se han desarrollado diversas estrategias terapéuticas para abordar esta afección, incluidas terapias tópicas, fototerapia y tratamientos sistémicos entre los cuales se encuentran los inhibidores de la IL-23. Objetivo: El objetivo de este artículo de revisión es examinar y resumir la evidencia más reciente sobre las nuevas terapias con inhibidores de la IL-23 en el tratamiento de la psoriasis. Metodología: Se realizó una búsqueda de estudios publicados en inglés y español desde 2014 en bases de datos científicas como PubMed, Google Scholar y Scopus. Se utilizaron términos de búsqueda específicos para identificar estudios relevantes sobre la eficacia y seguridad de los inhibidores de la IL-23 en pacientes con psoriasis. Resultados: Los inhibidores de la IL-23, como ustekinumab, guselkumab, tildrakizumab y risankizumab, han demostrado ser opciones terapéuticas seguras y eficaces para la psoriasis en placas de moderada a grave. Estos medicamentos han mostrado consistentemente altas tasas de mejoría en el Índice de Área y Severidad de la Psoriasis (PASI) en diversos estudios clínicos, siendo superiores o al menos equivalentes a otros tratamientos biológicos en términos de eficacia. En cuanto a la seguridad, los inhibidores de la IL-23 han sido bien tolerados en general, con eventos adversos comunes como infecciones del tracto respiratorio superior y eritema en el lugar de la inyección. Conclusión: Los inhibidores de la IL-23 representan una importante adición al arsenal terapéutico para el manejo de la psoriasis en placas, ofreciendo a los pacientes opciones efectivas y seguras para controlar esta enfermedad dermatológica crónica.
