Examining Self-Regulated Learning Strategy Model: A Measurement Invariance Analysis of MSLQ-CAL among College Students in China

Abstract: This study examined psychometric properties and measurement invariance of the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire for Chinese adult learners, learning strategy scale (MSLQ-CAL-LS). Data were collected from 2499 college students from 15 Chinese universities. Results from factor analysis suggested satisfactory psychometric properties of MSLQ-CAL-LS. We further identified strong evidence to support the configural, metric, scalar and strict invariance across the gender groups, confirming the appropriat… Show more

“…Additionally, none of the studies have validated the instrument through MI, which plays a key role in psychological and developmental research. Specifically, MI is a statistical approach used to examine the psychometric equivalence of a construct across different groups or across different occasions, such as gender (Guo et al, 2021), ethnic groups (Glanville & Wildhagen, 2007), and cultural groups (Senese et al, 2012). In conclusion, it is crucial to develop and validate an instrument for measuring students' beliefs in self-regulation and motivation in learning English in an online EFL environment during the COVID-19 pandemic through factor analyses and MI.…”

“…The received data were to be estimated on the part of the authors. Multiple linear regression models were chosen as a type of regression model that deals with one dependent variable and several independent variables [43][44][45]. Regression analysis is a statistical method or technique used to determine relationships between variables with a causal relationship.…”

“…Its integral indicators and empirical values of t obtained are shown in Table 1. The T. Leary's Test questionnaire has never been used by other researchers for estimating activity and independence on the part of the students [5,7,10,44]. The chosen test reflected the interpersonal interaction in social environment.…”

“…The most striking feature of self-regulated learning is that students have actual control over their own learning. They can cognitive and control the processes directly to achieve their learning goals (Callan et al., 2021 ; Guo et al., 2021a ; Tuti et al., 2021 ). Rovers et al compare the validity of several different methods of self-regulated learning (Rovers et al., 2019 ).…”
