“…We started with the parameters calculated from the values typical for the short time fluorescence quenching experiments of Krystkowiak and Maciejewski,22,23,26 ϭ25ϫ10 Ϫ12 s, Figure 1 shows k int (t) for the set ͑4.1͒. ͑2.3͒ for g AB (r) ϵ1 at several sets of parameters.…”

“…There are many possible reasons for these inconsistencies. Krystkowiak and Maciejewski 22,23 directly estimated for the fluorescence quenching of S 2 -thioketones. 2,24 One of them is that only diffusive processes describe the motion of reactants and, for example, ballistic motion, which is important at the early stage of reaction, is neglected.…”

“…For all three analyzed systems the values of D parameter decreased slightly with increasing quencher concentrations. On the basis of the present and earlier results 15,16 we discussed the mean values of R, D, and parameters obtained for each system and for each concentration of the quencher.…”

“…14 The processes of the quenching of aromatic thioketones S 2 -fluorescence by the hydrocarbon quenchers in perfluorohydrocarbons have been applied in both theoretical [5][6][7] and experimental work in which the steady-state 8,9 and dynamic 9,10 emission measurements were analyzed. Our recent studies 15,16 carried out using accurate procedures of measurements and calculations allowed a determination of accurate and reproducible values of R, D, and parameters for a number of systems: S 2 -xanthione or S 2 -deuterated xanthione and hydrocarbon quencher in perfluro-1,3dimethylcyclohexane. Interestingly, we have found 15 a significant difference between the values of D parameter for systems of S 2 -xanthione and S 2 -deuterated xanthione ͑differ only in fluorescence lifetime͒ quenched by three hydrocarbons in perfluro-1,3-dimethylcyclohexane.…”

“…It is known that the S 2 fluorescence of thioketones is quenched in conventional organic solvents such as hydrocarbons [5][6][7][8][9][10][11]. Further, since thioketones show the fluorescence from S 2 and S 1 as well as the phosphorescence from T 1 , it is of interest to investigate the relaxation processes of thioketones through measurements of these emissions to link the photophysical properties in the vapor and those in the condensed phases.…”
