Exact slip-buckling analysis of two-layer composite columns

Abstract: a b s t r a c tA mathematical model for slip-buckling has been proposed and its analytical solution has been found for the analysis of layered and geometrically perfect composite columns with inter-layer slip between the layers. The analytical study has been carried out to evaluate exact critical forces and to compare them to those in the literature. Particular emphasis has been placed on the influence of interface compliance on decreasing the bifurcation loads. For this purpose, a preliminary parametric study… Show more

“…Two-layer beam has been investigated by Foraboschi [1,2] using an analytical method. Kryžanowski et al [3] developed an analytical method to evaluate exact critical forces of two-layer composite columns. Grognec et al [4] used the Timoshenko beam model for buckling analysis of two-layer composite beams with partial interaction.…”

“…The exact static analysis of composite beams with partial layer interaction was presented in Girhammar and Pan [10]. Static buckling of composite beams and beam columns was more recently treated, for example, in [6,12,21,28]. In more sophisticated approaches, an inelastic relation between interlaminar shear traction and slip on the static deflection is considered.…”

“…A closedform prediction of buckling stress in local mode, including interaction of connected elements, and distortional mode, including consideration of the elastic and geometric stiffness at the web/flange juncture was conducted [3]. A mathematical model for slip buckling and its analytical solution has been founded for the analysis of layered and geometrically perfect composite columns with inter-layer slip between the layers was proposed [4]. Also, buckling of non-uniform column was analysed using Finite Element Analysis [5].…”
