“…Simultaneously, various therapeutic activities have been ascribed to alkaloids, including antioxidant, cancer-preventive, antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, and vasodilatory activities (252)(253)(254), but it has not been well-investigated how livestock could benefit from these beneficial activities from alkaloids. Many plant extracts that have been investigated for the beneficial actions of contained polyphenols and terpenoids may also contain alkaloids contributing to their biological activities, for example, giant milkweed (255) or herbal mixtures containing polyphenols, terpenoids, and alkaloids (256).…”

“…Evodiamine, dehydroevodiamine, and rutaecarpine are three major bioactive components of Evodia rutaecarpine ( Zhang Y. et al, 2018 ; Zhang et al, 2020 ). Their effects on cardiovascular protection, hepatic lipid metabolism regulation, liver injury protection, degenerative neurological diseases improvement, and acute pancreatitis protection have been fully recorded ( Yan et al, 2018 ; Tian et al, 2019 ; Li et al, 2020 ; Zhao B. et al, 2020 ). Recently, some studies have found that evodiamine and rutaecarpine also have anti-tumor activity in vivo and in vitro experiments, which can induce apoptosis and inhibit the proliferation, invasion, and metastasis of a variety of tumors ( Ogasawara et al, 2001 ; Jiang and Hu, 2009 ; Yang et al, 2017 ).…”
