Evidence of the Ambipolar Behavior of Mo6 Cluster Iodides in All-Inorganic Solar Cells: A New Example of Nanoarchitectonic Concept

Abstract: The supporting information is available free of charge.Grazing incidence X-ray diffraction patterns (GIXRD) of the [{Mo 6 I i 8 }I a 4 (H 2 O) a 2 ].xH 2 O photoelectrode, XPS analyses (wide-range spectra, I 3d, Mo 3d and Cs 4d) obtained on the MC film and the MC precursor powder and charge carrier lifetimes determined on the MC film via the OCP decay (file type, i.e., PDF).

“…The GIXRD results in Figure 2 a show the patterns of the initial MI@FTO and sulfurized samples. The wide peak observed around 9–12 degrees and the sharp crystal peaks at the higher 2θ angle in the initial MI@FTO pattern can be identified as the amorphous Mo 6 cluster iodide film and SnO 2 :F from the FTO substrate, respectively, which is consistent with our previous studies [ 45 , 51 ]. MoS 2 and SnS are found as the final products during this sulfurization process (see MI-450 pattern in Figure 2 a).…”

“…Conversely, the core contains a small amount of S and a high concentration of the Mo and O elements. This fact shows that, first, the film-bound water during the EPD process [ 45 , 58 ] serves as the O source, suggesting that the initial Mo 6 cluster iodide is probably oxidized into MoO 3 . The H 2 S gas then serves as the S source for the subsequent sulfurization to produce MoS 2 on the nanoparticle surface.…”

“…Among these properties are (i) bright luminescence in red/near infrared spectral regions (with microsecond lifetimes and high quantum yields) under the excitation of ultraviolet/visible light (up to 550 nm) or X-rays [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]; (ii) the efficient photosensitization of the reactive oxygen species generation process (mainly singlet oxygen, 1 O 2 ) [4,[8][9][10]; (iii) high radiopacity due to a high local concentration of heavy atoms in a cluster core [7,11]. Thus, different groups have demonstrated the utilization of cluster complexes individually or as active components of the materials in numerous areas, such as catalytic systems [12][13][14][15][16], liquid crystals [17,18], oxygen sensors [19][20][21][22], solar concentrators [16,23,24], an active layer of solar cells [25,26], bioimaging, photodynamic therapy (PDT) [27][28][29][30][31][32][33], as components of self-sterilizing materials [34][35][36][37], or as radiocontrast agents [11]. The abundance of publ...…”
