I n a study of the production mechanism of quasi-two-body final states a t the five incident r' momenta 2.95, 3.2, 3.5, 3.75, and 4.08 GeV/c, approximately 40 000 events with four outgoing charged particles were investigated. The cross sections for the processes r+$ --+ N*+fp, r + p -, N*++w, ?r+$--r N*++v, and?r+p -f AJ*++j'have been measured as a function of the pion energy. The differential cross sections and the decay density-matrix elements are discussed in terms of one-meson-exchange models l~v i t h absorption (OPEA) and with form factor (OPEW)] and Regge model,;. For the N*++p and the N*++w reactions, the joint-decay matrix elements are calculated. The formation of N*(2850) in the direct channel is also investigated.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
