Evidence base, quantitation and collaboration: three novel indices for bibliometric content analysis

Abstract: Bibliometric measurements, though controversial, are useful in providing measures of research performance in a climate of research competition and marketisation. Numerous bibliometric studies have been performed which rely on traditional indices (such as the journal impact factor and citation index) and provide little descriptive data regarding the actual characteristics of research. The purpose of this study was two-fold, to develop three novel bibliometric indices, designed to describe the characteristics of… Show more

“…Recommendations for future research in this area are first validation in an independent sample of trials and the use of a more sensitive metric to quantify research team composition (possibly involving extracting the number, affiliations and countries of the authors) (Wiles, Olds, and Williams, 2010). Second, it should be noted that the overall range in trial quality and journal impact factor in this sample is small and most studies report pain as most important problem.…”

“…For example, one of the fundamental approaches is Scientometrics, which is used to gauge and analyze science (Leydesdorff 2001;Price 1965). Scientometrics analyses are mainly based on bibliometrics methods, such as citation (Leydesdorff 1998) and content analysis (Wiles et al 2010). One of the interesting and emerging areas in the field of Scienctometrics is the use of social network concepts for analyzing scientific knowledge (Hou et al 2008;Lee and Jeong 2008;Nagpaul 2002;Park et al 2005;Park and Leydesdorff 2009;Pritchard 1969;Wang et al 2010).…”

“…Topic mapping based on keywords has also been carried out by research that specifically examines the Employee Relations journal published byEmerald(Kataria, Kumar, Sureka, & Gupta, 2020). In addition to keywords, the researcher also adopted a research step that attempted to present data on the most cited references(Pasadeos, Berger, & Renfro, 2010), the most cited author in the field of public relations(Ki, Pasadeos, & Ertem-Eray, 2019;Pasadeos & Renfro, 1992), and the most common authoraffiliation countries(Wiles, Olds, & Williams, 2013). This decision is based on the premise that most bibliometric studies provide citation analysis of research areas, usually in the form of Journalism and public relations: An interconnection in academic research (Dandi Supriadi, Hanny Hafiar, Abdul Manan Safi, Kholidil Amin)…”
