EVASOR, an Integrated Model to Manage Complex Irrigation Systems Energized by Photovoltaic Generators

Abstract: The carbon footprint and energy cost of irrigation are increasing due to the modernization of irrigation systems, which also necessitates highly efficient use of water resources. Alternatives to conventional energy sources to power irrigation systems are renewable sources, primarily photovoltaic energy. Photovoltaic energy has the main disadvantage of producing a highly variable amount of energy, which affects the irrigation uniformity. Modeling irrigation systems in an integrated manner generates useful infor… Show more

“…The PV efficiency is considered constant in [14,24]. A linear equation without temperature influence is used in [27]. The authors of [13,22,23] consider only the influence of the cell temperature on the PV efficiency, while the influence of the solar radiation is neglected.…”

“…The irrigation system consisted of 20 subunits with a highly irregular shape and topography with elevation differences of up to 60 m. Thus, the energy demand of the irrigation system was highly variable depending on the activated irrigation subunit. A full description of the irrigation system can be found in [24].…”
