With this issue we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the fteval Journal for Research and Technology Policy Evaluation. The first thirteen issues were published under the title 'Platform Technology Evaluation'. Different founding members of the platform acted as editors of individual issues, such as Oliver Fritz, Wolfgang Polt, Gernot Hutschenreiter, Michael Stampfer, or Anton Geyer. The journal understood itself as an open, irregularly published forum for discussion of methodological and content-related evaluation issues in the field of research and technology policy. And this idea is still the basic direction of the journal. From the very beginning it invited and accepted contributions from scholars from all over the world. As of number 14, the journal was newly labelled as 'Newsletter of the Austrian Platform for Research and Technology Policy Evaluation'. Klaus Zinöcker became the driving force behind the journal until he handed over to myself. In 2013, finally, the Journal got a new refurbishment. It did not only receive a new design, but also its current name. Moreover, an international editorial review board was introduced that became responsible for the quality assurance of the submitted papers.
