Evaluation of wound healing potential of methanolic Crinum jagus bulb extract

Abstract: Objective:Crinum jagus (J. Thomps.) Dandy commonly called Harmattan or St. Christopher’s lily belonging to the family Liliaceae is widely used traditionally in Southeastern Nigeria for treatment of skin sores. This study investigated the wound healing potentials of methanolic C. jagus bulb extract (MCJBE) using incision, excision, and dead space wound healing models.Materials and Methods:Phytochemical screening showed the presence of alkaloids, glycosides, tannins, saponins in the extract, but absence of flavo… Show more

“…Wound which might faced everyone in life time [ 1 ] can be described as “a loss or breaking of cellular, anatomical and/or functional connection of living tissues that result in a breach, contravention or interrupting of tissue integrity [ 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 ]. These in turn have an important impact on public health care systems and resource expenses [ 9 ].…”

“…Others are calcium tetrata, 6-hydroxycrinamine and calcium oxalate [6]. The ethanol extract of C. jagus was shown to have antidiabetic, antioxidant and antimicrobial effects [6]. Despite the great potential of Crinum species as a valuable source of bioactive compounds, no scientific data regarding the chemical composition and biological potential of essential oil from C. jagus has been reported.…”
