Objective: This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of adolescents’ use of smartphone applications and educational booklets in an educational programme about sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Design: Non-equivalent control-group time-series design. Setting: The study was conducted in two public high schools located in two urban areas of South Korea. Methods: The following measures were developed using Roger’s protection-motivation theory as the study’s conceptual framework: STI knowledge, STI vulnerability, STI prevention self-efficacy and STI prevention intentions. Data from 88 senior students were analysed: 47 students in the smartphone application group (experimental) and 41 in the educational booklet group (control). The procedures consisted of a face-to-face lecture plus self-study and a period of self-study only. Participants were tested at three time points: pre-test, post-test 1 (immediately after the programme’s completion) and post-test 2 (5 weeks after the programme’s completion). Results: Significant group differences were found at different times in STI knowledge, vulnerability, prevention self-efficacy and prevention intentions. Smartphone applications were more effective in sustaining the effects of the educational programme than the educational booklets. Conclusion: Researchers and educators should examine the role of relevant learning materials in the promotion of adolescents’ development of self-study skills and their knowledge acquisition.

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused disruption to human life throughout the world in 2020. This virus has recorded above 21 Million infected cases and 750,000 deaths by early August 2020 [7]. As there is no cure and vaccine available yet, this unprecedented infectious virus is still claiming its toll on daily basis. The year 2020 will be remembered throughout the world for the pandemic and is the same in Malaysia too. Malaysia observed stringent movement control orders (MCO) by locking down the economy from March 18th, 2020. This has greatly reduced the carbon emissions by commercial/ educational entities throughout the country. At the same time, since people were required to stay home and the use of communication and work channels through digital platforms escalated, it has caused the surge in the residential network and energy demand to the peak. The online meetings and the Directto-Home (DTH) connections caused enormous load on the network infrastructure and the related energy surge. This study is an attempt to study the effects of pro-environmental behaviour and the Green IT practices during the lockdown period through applying the Protection Motivation Theory (PMT). Our research indicated that the constructs of PMT has the significant capability to define the pro-environmental behaviour in the individuals. The PMT constructs, 'selfefficacy' and 'response-efficacy', along with the extrinsic and intrinsic rewards of intentions can derive pro-environmental behaviour in the given circumstances related to this study.

Youths and adolescents are vulnerable to HIV/STIs from unprotected sex. Promotion of young population’s awareness about risky sexual behaviors is essential to develop contextualized interventions. A cross-sectional study was conducted in five Vietnamese provinces to document current attitudes and practices regarding sexual behaviors among youths. The information on sociodemographic characteristics, substance use, and sexual behaviors was collected via self-reported questionnaires. The factors associated with risky sexual behaviors were identified by the multivariate logistic regression. Among the 1200 participants, 73.5% reported having sex in their lifetime, and 48.1% used condoms at their latest sexual intercourse. Participants in urban areas were more likely not to intend to use condoms and had a higher unintended pregnancy rate than in rural areas. Older age was positively associated with not wanting to use and not using condoms. Substance-using participants were more likely to not use condoms. The participants taking alcohol or other stimulants before sex had a higher likelihood of unintended pregnancy. Respondents’ attitudes and practices regarding sexual behaviors were associated with gender and employment. This study indicated that young population’s awareness in Vietnam is high, however, risky sexual behaviors also remain common. Sex-related educational programs about the consequences of substance use, multiple sex partners, and unprotected sex should be developed.
