Evaluation of the usefulness of a MOSFET detector in an anthropomorphic phantom for 6-MV photon beam

Abstract: In order to evaluate the usefulness of a metal oxide-silicon field-effect transistor (MOSFET) detector as a in vivo dosimeter, we performed in vivo dosimetry using the MOSFET detector with an anthropomorphic phantom. We used the RANDO phantom as an anthropomorphic phantom, and dose measurements were carried out in the abdominal, thoracic, and head and neck regions for simple square field sizes of 10 x 10, 5 x 5, and 3 x 3 cm(2) with a 6-MV photon beam. The dose measured by the MOSFET detector was verified by t… Show more

“…Metal‐oxide semiconductor field‐effect transistor (MOSFET) detectors may be used to achieve this goal. The MOSFET detector has been used as a pinpoint dosimeter for the dose verification of photons ( 1 5 ) and electrons (6) . Although the MOSFET detector has been used for proton beam dosimetry, ( 7 , 8 ) the relative response of the TN‐252‐RD MOSFET detector (Best Medical Canada, Ottawa, Canada) in the Bragg peak region was 26% lower than responses obtained with an ionization chamber, (7) presumably because the MOSFET detector strongly depends on the linear energy transfer (LET) of the proton beam.…”

“…The mobile MOSFET dose verification system [131415161718] was introduced by Best Medical, Canada that makes the dosimetric measurements faster and easier. The use of a MOSFET dosimeter has several advantages, such as small detector size that allows pinpoint measurements, lightweight that does not cause any harm to the patient, minimal power requirement, ease of use, and online readout.…”
