Evaluation of the usability of a new ITG instrument to measure hard and soft governance maturity

Abstract: IT governance (ITG) has stayed a challenging matter for years. Research suggests the existence of a gap between theoretical frameworks and practice. Although current ITG research is largely focused on hard governance (structure, processes), soft governance (behavior, collaboration) is equally important and might be crucial to close the gap. The goal of this study is to evaluate the usability of a new ITG maturity instrument that covers hard and soft ITG in detail. We conducted ten case studies and evaluated th… Show more

“…A total of 103 of the 109 articles applied one procedure model for model design. Five articles (Antonsen & Madsen, 2021;Siedler et al, 2021;Smits & van Hillegersberg, 2014Thordsen & Bick, 2020) use a combination of two procedure models, while one paper (Jin et al, 2014) combines three models.…”

“…Therefore, the implementation of an enterprise performance measuring system is an integral part of effective IT governance [12]. However, literature highlights a gap between theoretical frameworks and practices and states that, although hard governance (structures, procedures) attracts the attention of many, soft governance (behaviour, collaboration) could be crucial in bridging the gap [13][14][15][16]. Therefore, this research aimed to investigate the soft governance practices and contribute to designing a decisional support system to implement data-driven governance.…”

“…Information Technology (IT) is one of the pillars of our society, changing the way people relate to each other and how businesses communicate and interact among them [1]. IT has become an essential asset in operations and business growth; organizations are becoming completely dependent on it, which has led them to shift their attention to IT governance (ITG) [2] [4].…”
