Evaluation of the reactivity, selectivity and lifetime of hydrotalcite-based catalysts using isopropanol as probe molecule

Abstract: Hydrotalcite catalysts derived from NiAl and NiAlMg mixed oxides were successfully prepared by coprecipitation at a constant pH of 11. Physicochemical methods were investigated to determine their structural and textural properties. Using isopropanol as a probe molecule, the acid–base properties of the catalysts were investigated, and the evaluation of reactivity, selectivity and lifetime was established.

“…Indeed, the presence of Mg has many positive effects such as dispersive effect of Ni particles, acid-base properties and resistance to coke deposition as reported in the literature. 6,7,13,24 These results show that the combination of La with Mg can significantly improve the characteristics of the catalyst precursor for the DRM reaction. The crystal structure and microstructural defects at high temperatures and low oxygen partial pressure seem to actively participate to the DRM reaction without poisoning the Ni particles.…”

“…According to the literature, 6,7,[24][25][26][27] the incorporation of Mg into the hydrotalcite matrix positively influences the catalytic performances and reactivity of the dry methane reforming. Indeed, the presence of Mg has many positive effects such as dispersive effect of Ni particles, acid-base properties and resistance to coke deposition as reported in the literature.…”

“…Abdelsadek et al 64 and Abdelhamid et al 65 have ascribed the production of acetone by dehydrogenation of IPA to the presence of basic sites. Their hypotheses 64,65 strongly supported our findings herein. Others linked nonoxidative dehydrogenation of IPA to the exposed (111) facets of Cu catalyst 66 based on the calculated values of the energy barrier for the dehydrogenation process, or in the case of the photocatalytic dehydrogenation of IPA, due to the formation of highly defect (001) faceted–ZnO 67 that facilitate the adsorption of IPA during its dehydrogenation to acetone.…”
