A series of Sr P O :Dy , Sr P O :Ce and Sr P O :Dy ,Ce phosphors was synthesized via the one-step calcination process for the precursors prepared by co-precipitation methods. The phases, morphology, quantum efficiency and photoluminescence properties of the obtained phosphors were characterized systematically. These results show that the near-spherical particles prepared through calcining the precursors by means of ammonium dibasic phosphate co-precipitation (method 3) have the smallest particle size and strongest emission intensity among the three methods in the paper. With Dy concentration increasing in Sr P O :Dy phosphors, the luminescence intensity first increases, reaches maximum, and then decreases. A similar trend was followed by Sr P O :Ce with Ce concentration increasing. A successful attempt was made to initiate the energy transfer mechanism from Ce to Dy in the host lattice and an overlap between the emission band of Ce and the excitation band of Dy indicated that the Ce → Dy energy transfer may indeed exist. It is clear that the photoluminescence intensity of Dy as well as the quantum efficiency of the phosphor can be enhanced markedly by co-doping Ce . Sr P O :Dy ,Ce has its (CIE) chromaticity coordinates in the bluish-white-light region, near the standard illuminant D . The CIE 1913 chromaticity coordinates of Sr P O :Dy phosphors fall in the white-light region, and are adjacent to the ideal white-light coordinates. In addition, the colour temperature and colour tone of Sr P O :Dy could be adjusted by changing the relative concentration of Dy . In short, Sr P O :Dy can be a promising single-phased white-light emitting phosphor for near-UV (NUV) w-LEDs.

Previous research indicated that the peridot's color is dominated by the selective absorption of visible light caused by ferrous ion, the hue angle of which is in an inverse ratio of the concentration of Fe2+. This article focuses on the color effect of peridot under different standard light sources based on the CIE1976 L*a*b* color space system and round RGB diagram system and tries to find the best one for its grading and display. Based on the results of a series of experiments, including electron microprobe analysis, spectrophotometer, UV‐Vis spectrum, standard illumination box, and Munsell neutral color chips, it was suggested that the spectral power distribution and color temperature of a standard light source significantly influence the color of peridot in terms of lightness and chroma, particularly in the hue of peridot. As for color grading and displaying of peridot, standard light source A fails to fit in, and the color of peridot under a fluorescent light source has a higher chroma but a lower hue angle than that under daylight light source. The best choice for grading and displaying peridot is the standard light source D65. It is better to distinguish the hue of peridot when it is calculated by the round RGB diagram system.

This paper discusses two methods for evaluating the quality of daylight simulators, namely the band‐value method specified in British standard BS 950 and the CIE metamerism index method. Six daylight simulators of various types and manufacturers were used for the assessment and a psychophysical experiment was conducted to evaluate the two methods. A range of 70 metameric pairs was assessed by a panel of observers under each of the six simulators and the reliability of their visual results was examined in terms of observer accuracy and repeatability. The visual results were also compared for each pair of simulators to reveal how the results could be affected by using different simulators. The effectiveness of four colour difference formulae was tested using the visual results. Finally, four methods were developed using two statistical measures of performance factor, band‐value deviation and CIE metamerism index for evaluating the quality of daylight simulators.
