V 2 O 5 is deemed as one of the most promising cathode materials for next-generation high-capacity lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). It possesses a theoretical capacity of 294 mAh g À1 , which is much higher than conventional cathodes. However, there are many issues to be solved before its practical use, including poor cycle life and unsatisfactory rate performance, mainly owing to its low electronic conductivity and ionic diffusivity, as well as structural instability. This work reports three types of V 2 O 5 asymmetric membranes synthesized by using an adapted reverse-osmosis membrane technology combined with sol-gel chemistry, aiming to stabilize the cyclability and improve the rate performance. V 2 O 5 asymmetric membrane cathodes prepared using graphene as the conductive additives have a specific capacity of approximately 160 mAh g À1 at a current density of 100 mA g À1 with no capacity degradation after 380 cycles. It is also found that the annealing temperature and the choice of conductive additives can affect the morphology of V 2 O 5 nanoparticles and the overall electrode cyclability. A lower annealing temperature (300 vs. 400 8C) and addition of graphene are beneficial to long-term cycling performance.[a] Dr.

In this study, scalable membrane technologies are adapted to obtain silicon asymmetric membranes for lithium‐ion battery anodes. The unique asymmetric porous structure can provide both mechanical support and free volume to accommodate the large volume expansion during silicon lithiation, thus leading to excellent rate and cycling performance. An overall specific capacity as high as 1500 mAh g−1 was achieved at 100 mA g−1. Even at 1000 mA g−1, the capacity was still above 800 mAh g−1. More than 90 % of the initial capacity was retained after 200 cycles. It was also observed that a lower Si content and higher carbonization temperature can help achieve stable cycling performance in general. This report is significant in terms of demonstrating a simplistic, generic, and scalable method to create a robust, porous asymmetric membrane structure for efficient lithium‐ion storage.

This paper presents a study of thin films of the commercial ketone resins Laropal K80, Keton N and MS2A, attempting to reproduce the pictorial layers and protective finishes commonly present in contemporary paintings. Chemical and morphological changes due to the degradation effect of environmental agents have been specially considered. For this purpose, three different accelerated ageing processes were applied to a series of specimens prepared from the studied commercial products: thermal, UV light and ageing in an SO(2)-polluted chamber. Spectroscopic techniques such as FTIR spectroscopy and UV-Vis spectrophotometry were applied in combination with microscopic examination techniques, namely, AFM and scanning electron microscopy energy dispersive X-ray microanalysis (SEM-EDX). Chemical changes due to UV light and thermal ageing are in good agreement with those previously reported in the literature. Bleaching exhibited by the three commercial products after exposure to a SO(2)-saturated atmosphere has been related to the diffusion of SO(2)-rich water vapour into the film. This effect was particularly strong in the MS2A resin due to the higher content of hydroxyl groups in this product.
