Evaluation of the Natural Crown Convergence Angle of Dog Carnassial Teeth

Abstract: A limiting factor in achieving an ideal crown preparation design is the natural morphology, principally the convergence angle, of the tooth. The natural convergence angle of the carnassial teeth in the dog has not been reported. The aim of the study reported here was to establish the natural crown convergence angle of the maxillary fourth premolar and mandibular first molar teeth in the dog. The natural convergence angle of the carnassial teeth in dogs was large and was not significantly associated with patien… Show more

“…Second, the natural CA of the maxillary fourth premolar tooth has been reported to be 42.9°. 11 Thus, achieving a CA of 12° would likely require an unacceptable amount of structural tooth removal, ultimately severely weakening the structural integrity of the tooth.…”
