Evaluation of the P, T -odd Faraday effect in Xe and Hg atoms

Abstract: Accurate evaluation of the P,T -odd Faraday effect (rotation of the polarization plane for the light propagating through a medium in presence of an external electric field) is presented. This effect can arise only due to the P,T -odd (P -space parity, T -time reflection) interactions and is different from the ordinary Faraday effect, i.e. the light polarization plane rotation in an external magnetic field. The rotation angle is evaluated for the ICAS (intracavity absorption spectroscopy) type experiments with … Show more

“…The last considered example is the E1 transition from the metastable ( 2 P 0 3/2 )6s[3/2] 0 2 state to the excited ( 2 P 0 3/2 )6p[1/2] 1 state of the xenon atom with λ = 980 nm The population of the lower metastable level can be obtained with the laser pumping [38]. The eEDM enhancement factors were calculated in [42] and R i d + R f d = (113 + (−48)) = 65. In [42] R d factors are presented for definite hyperfine levels.…”
