Evaluation of the influence of friction in a multi-leaf spring on the working conditions of a truck driver

Abstract: This article presents a simulation study of the suspension system in a vehicle that weighs approximately 12 tons (class N2). The authors have tested the influence of experimentally determined values of friction coefficients on the energy dissipated in the multi-leaf spring. The study was carried out using finite element analysis with LS-DYNA software. A nonlinear vibration model of the complete spring was developed, including the variable friction forces between the leafs. The model takes into account the spru… Show more

“…To assess local vibration exposure (on the steering wheel), the vector sum of frequencyweighted root-mean-square (r.m.s) acceleration (vibration total value) a hvi and 8-hour vibration exposure is calculated according to [7,8,13]. For each measurement, the value of a hvi is calculated according to the relation (1): Perception and annoyance of vibrations generated by means of transport are subjective in nature [5].…”

“…Its construction and the materials used affect, among others, traction and controllability of the vehicle, especially in critical conditions of its motion [1,2]). It is also an important, next to the suspension [3], an elastic-damping element that codecides on the driving comfort and car movement of the car in various road conditions [4]. The pneumatic tire is the most common type of tire today.…”
