Evaluation of the immunogenicity of Schistosoma mansoni egg surface

Abstract: Introduction: Immunogenicity of Schistosoma mansoni egg surface was examined to determine whether intact eggshells have lower antigenicity than ruptured eggs. Methods: Swiss Webster mice were inoculated with intact or ultrasonicated S. mansoni eggs isolated from infected human feces. Mice were separated into four groups of six animals each and immunizations were performed approximately every 20 days during a 60-day period. Groups 1-4 were administered with saline solution, sonicated eggs with Freund's adjuvant… Show more

“…Maior parte das causas de morbidade provocada pela esquistossomose crônica são os ovos e as respostas imunológicas do parasita que eles evocam. Os pares de vermes do Schistosoma mansoni ficam em torno de 350 ovos por dia (CANDIDO et al, 2017).…”

“…The combination of protection using SEA and adjuvant was recommended in several studies [25][26][27][28][29] as it provided many complementary goals, a reduction of egg-induced pathology, minimal parenchymal changes and the eradication of worms. Therefore, the assessment of the effect of MPLA adjuvant with protective antigen SEA against infected mice is important by studying several criteria related to the parasitic intensity, stages and distribution through the tissues of the host for the evaluation of the magnitude of infection and efficacy of the treatment [30].…”
