Introduction: In the context of tooth extraction and aesthetic care, steps are needed for tooth extraction. Alveolar bone resorption after tooth extraction often leads to situations where the long-term function and esthetic success of dental implant restorations is a challenge. Thus, the Socket shield has been described as an alternative technique to maintain the alveolar ridge in the placement of immediate implants. Objective: Conducted a concise systematic review of key considerations and clinical outcomes of minimally traumatic treatment of tooth extraction and dental implants. Methods: The present study followed a concise systematic review model, following the rules of systematic review – PRISMA. The search strategy was performed in the PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science and Scopus, and Google Scholar databases. The present study was carried out from January to March 2022. The quality of the studies was based on the GRADE instrument and the risk of bias was analyzed according to the Cochrane instrument. Results and Conclusion: A total of 112 articles were found. A total of 47 articles were fully evaluated and 26 were included in this study. The results suggest that the adjunctive use of connective tissue grafting is not mandatory to achieve successful esthetic results for well-planned immediate implant placement with non-functional immediate provisional restoration in a fresh extraction socket. Still, the success/modified success rate, survival, mean resorption of the oral plate, and patient satisfaction, there were no differences between immediate implants placed with a flap or with an envelope flap of minimal thickness.

Golden Mean and Proportion in Dental Esthetics after Orthodontic Treatments: An In Vivo Study

Purpose: The definition of the golden ratio was established around the sixth century BC; Levin and Snow developed specific theories applicable in dentistry, which apply the golden proportion rule with the intention of reproducing a perfect smile. This study analyzed the literature and assessed whether these concepts remain valid and applicable in clinical practice, evaluating the theories with a group of patients followed by an experienced orthodontic team. Methods: This study was retrospectively performed on 400 patients (241 females and 159 males) who underwent orthodontic treatments. The analysis was conducted on intraoral frontal photos, both pre-treatment and post-orthodontic treatment, to observe if there was a statistically significant difference in the tooth display according to the golden mean and golden proportion theories. Results: The canine at the end of the orthodontic treatment had a greater visibility than that proposed by Levin and Snow. Conclusions: This study revealed how these theories could be considered in certain respects, but nowadays are not totally valid and applicable to the clinical reality. Snow’s theory appears to be more consistent with the clinical findings than Levin’s theory.

Beauty is achieved when using the concept of balance. Several authors have suggested that delicate facial appearance has optimized proportions correlated with the golden proportion. Some authors recommended the application of the golden ratio theory to correlate the successive wideness of the anterior teeth, as observed from the labial angle. It was also revealed that the central incisor width must be in golden proportion to the wideness of the lateral incisor and that the lateral incisor must be in golden proportion to the wideness of the canine whenever examined from the front. Various studies have supported the application of divine proportion in dentistry. The primary objective of this mini-review is to outline the relationship between facial esthetic and divine proportion and highlight the use of rhinoplasty for facial esthetics.
