Evaluation of the gel system for ABO grouping and D typing

Abstract: The gel assay performed as well as the tube assay in detection of A, B, and D, but the tube assay was slightly better at detecting B isohemagglutinins. The gel assay can be used in place of the tube assay for ABO blood grouping and D typing.

“…15 The use of modern sensitive gel system for ABO and Rh D typing has given concordant result when compared with the conventional blood grouping system. 16 This improved sensitivity of the anti-D antisera is also responsible for the decreased frequency of the weak D phenotypes. Prevalence also varies with region to region.…”

“…Additionally, it might have nothing to do with molecular mechanisms or genetics. It is merely the result of population history [45][46][47] , environment [45,48,49] , diet [50] and customs [51][52][53][54][55] . In conclusion, the current study shows no association of ABO blood groups with EC and CC, when the patients are not separated by sex and tumor site.…”

“…Our telemedical system is based on the pre-transfusion serological testing consisting of ABO blood grouping, cross matching, antibody detection and specification (direct and indirect antiglobulin tests) (Lapierre et al, 1990;Langston et al, 1999). These tests are based on the detection of red cell antigen-antibody reactions, resulting in the agglutination of red blood cells.…”

“…The gel test method of pre-transfusion serological testing, when performed by standardized procedures, yields sensitive, specific and reproducible results. The final visual read out and interpretation of the gel-card represents the most important step affecting the accuracy of the medical diagnosis (Lapierre et al, 1990;Langston et al, 1999). It requires engagement of highly qualified and experienced personnel.…”
