Evaluation of the Estimation Method of Acceptable Room Temperatures by French Residential Data

Abstract: We evaluate the proposed method that estimates acceptable room temperatures, by French residential data. By distributing HEMS sets to 200 French volunteer families, we have collected data of smart plugs and thermometers from April of 2014 to March of 2015. By applying the proposed method to the French volunteer residential data of winter, we obtain 0.4 degree Celsius reduction on average by comparing the room temperature means to the minimum acceptable temperatures estimated by the proposed method. This result… Show more

“…In addition, the energy-saving rate of the large room in the second evaluation might have been affected by use of the conference space, although we did not monitor use of conference space A/C indoor units and randomly allotted usage days to normalize such effects. In spite of the possibility that the use of conference space A/C indoor units affects energy consumption, the small-room results in the second evaluation suggest that the proposed method is useful for energy conservation in a nonresidential area, as we showed for residential areas in [13,15].…”

“…Details of this decision boundary are described below. Reference [17] obtained energy-saving possibilities by assuming a decision boundary applied to room temperatures measured in 200 volunteer households in France. The proposed method was not actually applied in that study, but rather evaluated through data analysis.…”

“…The proposed method was not actually applied in that study, but rather evaluated through data analysis. Further, the present study uses data different from those used in [17]. Reference [18] partially reported the first experimental evaluation, where the proposed method was actually applied in 36 apartments in France.…”
