Evaluation of the efficacy of halloysite nanotubes in the removal of acidic and basic dyes from aqueous solution

Abstract: The present work describes the removal of Direct Red 81, Methyl Orange, Methylene Blue and Crystal Violet from aqueous solution using halloysite nanotubes. The clay mineral was physicochemically characterized using various methods. The influences of pH, interaction time, initial dye concentration, adsorbent amount and temperature on adsorption were monitored and interpreted. Although previous work has shown that acidic pH conditions favour the adsorption of pollutants from aqueous systems by clay materials, in… Show more

“…Mineral adsorbent is a popular research and application object in the field of adsorption. Because minerals are not only with low cost and large reserves but also with recyclable properties, so it is an ideal type of green adsorbent 29 31 . Natural nano tubular mineral is a kind of mineral adsorbent with good adsorption properties.…”

“…The HNTs find several applications such as ceramic, support for catalysts and other functional materials [27,28]. Recently, raw halloysite was successfully tested as adsorbents for removal of dyes, heavy metals and pollutants from aqueous solutions [e.g., [29][30][31].…”
