Evaluation of the Driver's Temporary Arousal Level by Facial Skin Thermogram-Effect of Surrounding Temperature and Wind on the Thermogram-

Abstract: Recently, established transportation system is actively done to the research on ITS that starts achieving a more excellent traffic environment by using most-advanced information and communications technology. We studied the method of evaluating arousal level of human based on facial skin thermal image analysis. Facial skin thermal image can be easily measured by noncontact with an infrared rays thermography device. The temperature of the face skin depends on the blood flow. In the case of the sympathetic nerve… Show more

“…From this In previous studies, the stimulation of subjects by tasks or loads resulted in calculation problems, 4,5 a metallic scratching noise, 7 and diffi cult tasks. 8 The reaction of NST to these stimulations decreased quickly immediately after starting the stimulation. However, NST decreased after Ptime in this experiment.…”

“…The nasal skin temperature decreases due to vasoconstrictive action when the sympathetic nervous system dominates, but it increases when the parasympathetic nervous system dominates. The forehead skin temperature is considered not to be affected by autonomic nervous system activity [8,9], and hence using the difference between the skin temperatures in nasal and forehead areas seems adequate for evaluation.…”

“…Meanwhile, the forehead temperature doesn't change for various mental workload conditions [14], [15]. Therefore, the N-F temperature is better to evaluate the mental workload on the ship's bridge where it is difficult to control the temperature.…”
