Evaluation of the Delta4phantom for IMRT and VMAT verification

Abstract: The Delta(4) diode array phantom (Scandidos, Uppsala, Sweden) was evaluated for verification of segmental intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) on an Elekta linear accelerator (Crawley UK). The device was tested for angular sensitivity by irradiating it from 36 different gantry angles, and the responses of the device to various step-and-shoot segment doses and dose rates were evaluated using an ionization chamber as a comparison. The phantom was then compared … Show more

“…This basic functionality of the Delta 4 system is by now well described and validated 14 , 20 , 21 . The dosimeter has two planar diode arrays arranged at a right angle and thus the 2D beam modulation information is preserved regardless of the gantry angle.…”

“…The usual method to perform this QA consists of comparing dose distribution measurements acquired with phantoms/detectors of regular geometries with TPS calculations made under the same conditions 13 , 14 , 15 . Volumetric treatments have incorporated specifically developed solutions for these techniques 16 , 17 . Dose distribution comparisons tend to involve gamma index‐based analyses (18) .…”

“…This device was validated by various groups for step‐and‐shoot IMRT, ( 4 , 31 , 32 ) VMAT ( 31 ) and Helical TomoTherapy. ( 33 ) The dosimeter consists of a 22 cm diameter PMMA phantom with two orthogonal detector boards.…”
