Upper extremity peripheral nerve injuries (PNIs) significantly impact daily functionality and necessitate effective treatment strategies. Clinical trials play a crucial role in developing these strategies. However, challenges like retrospective data collection, reporting biases, inconsistent outcome measures, and inadequate data sharing practices hinder effective research and treatment advancements. This review aims to analyze the landscape of reporting, methodological design, outcome measures, and data sharing practices in registered clinical trials concerning upper extremity PNIs. It seeks to guide future research in this vital area by identifying current trends and gaps. A systematic search was conducted on ClinicalTrials.gov and WHO International Clinical Trials Registry Platform up to November 10, 2023, using a combination of MeSH terms and keywords related to upper extremity nerve injury. The PRISMA 2020 guidelines were followed, and the studies were selected based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. A narrative synthesis of findings was performed, with statistical analysis for associations and completion rates. Of 3051 identified studies, 96 met the inclusion criteria. These included 47 randomized controlled trials, 27 nonrandomized trials, and others. Sensory objective measures were the most common primary outcomes. Only 13 studies had a data sharing plan. The analysis revealed varied intervention methods and inconsistencies in outcome measures. There was a significant association between study funding, design, and completion status, but no association between enrollment numbers and completion. This review highlights the need for standardized outcome measures, patient-centered assessments, and improved data sharing in upper extremity PNI trials. The varied nature of interventions and inconsistency in outcome measures indicate the necessity for more rigorous and transparent research practices to strengthen the evidence base for managing these injuries.

Acetylcysteine (AC) destabilizes keratin and softens nails, reducing the time needed to correct pincer nail deformity with an overcurvature‐correcting device. The objective of this phase 3, multicenter, randomized, investigator‐blinded study was to evaluate the early and sustained therapeutic effectiveness and safety of 10% AC gel plus an overcurvature‐correcting device to treat pincer nails. Patients aged 12 years and older with hallux pincer nail were fitted with an overcurvature‐correcting device for 7 days, with a 24‐h application of AC gel (n = 40) or vehicle (n = 39) on day 1. The primary end point (achievement of a distal narrowed nail width ratio ≥70% on day 8) was met by 47.5% in the 10% AC group and 25.6% in the vehicle group (difference 21.9%; p = 0.0439). Secondary end points showed a greater tendency towards improvement with 10% AC. The nail correction effect was maintained for at least 12 weeks in the majority of AC‐treated patients, although the study duration was insufficient to assess the long‐term probability of recurrence. No AC‐related adverse events were reported. In conclusion, a single application of 10% AC gel combined with short‐term device use facilitated earlier correction of pincer nails compared with the device alone, with improvements maintained after device removal.

In the present paper, we introduced two approximation methods to investigate the spherically compressed lithium atom under the influence of Debye plasma. Specifically, the diffusion and the variational Monte Carlo methods are used for the first time to study this case. We incorporated an exponential screening into the nuclear Coulomb potential to account for the plasma influence. We focused our investigation on analyzing the combined effect of compression and plasma environment on the behavior of the lithium atom in its ground state. The resulting outcomes exhibited consistent pattern across various confinement radii and Debye plasma lengths . Many of the results are novel contributions, as they have yet to be explored. Moreover, the findings from this study demonstrated reasonable agreement with the limited existing theoretical results.
