Evaluation of the construct and internal validity of the Professional Identity Questionnaire: A Rasch analysis

Abstract: Results from this study provide preliminary evidence for the construct and internal validity of the PIQ, especially when using the revised scale structure. However, further research is required before the PIQ can be recommended for widespread use.

“…This study demonstrated that the PIQ held promise as a valid measure of professional identity in occupational therapists. However, results from this study suggested that measurement precision was improved when the scoring structure was revised from the original 5‐point scale to a 3‐point scale (collapsing ‘strongly disagree’, ‘disagree’ and ‘neutral’ into a single scale point) (Scanlan, ). For this reason, analyses presented in this paper use this revised, 3‐point scale structure.…”

“…Further in this special issue, Cutler, Hamilton, Hough, Baines and Clark () examined the criterion validity of two innovative systems for measuring pinch strength: a small load cell and pressure‐sensing fabric with a traditional gold standard mechanical pinch gauge. Scanlan () evaluated the construct and internal validity the Professional Identity Questionnaire (PIQ) using a Rasch analysis approach with a cohort of occupational therapy respondents.…”
