Evaluation of the Color‐emphasis System as an Endoscopic Diagnostic Method: Is the Adopted Type Hemoglobin Index Color Emphasis Useful for the Diagnosis of Superficial Type Colon Tumors?

Abstract: The difficulty in an endoscopic diagnosis of colorectal tumors depends mainly on their gross configuration. As the superficial flat type and depressed type tumors are usually detected endoscopically by a faint redness on their surface, we evaluated the usefulness of an adopted type hemoglobin index color emphasis system in the lesion of a non‐granular (NG) type laterally spreading tumor (LST). The NG‐type LST was composed of only a flat surface without any nodules. The frequency of Tis was 20.2% and that of T1… Show more

“…11,12 The submucosal invading rates of the protruded type, superficial elevated, depressed type, and laterally spreading tumor were 2.2, 0.1, 16.7, and 8.5 percent, respectively. 11 The depressed type cancer invaded the submucosal layer, although was only approximately 5 mm in diameter, and the depressed-type cancer changes its gross configuration to a shape of mimicking a trapezoid (IIa + IIc) when it deeply invades the submucosal layer.…”

“…Colonoscopic examination was performed, and laterally spreading tumors (LST) 2 were detected in the transverse (T), descending (D), and sigmoid (S) colon, and received a endoscopic treatment for the LST of T and D colon. Histopathological diagnosis of both lesions was tubular adenocarcinoma.…”
